Merging Arts with Sciences: Kids discovering marine life in Egypt

At the UNESCO booth, kids were invited as ‘Little Explorer’ to navigate the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea in Egypt and to have a virtual walk along their coastlines to get to know living creatures and discover marine life and biodiversity. They were invited choose to be one of the UNESCO Arab Little Explorers: Little Natural Scientist, Little Genius, Little Artist, or Little Artisan. Kids expressed themselves through artistic expressions including drawing, sketching, painting the seascape and marine plants and animals or molding any living creature. The activity was designed by the Conservation Pulses initiative (CPI) which is an initiative of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States in Cairo, leading interdisciplinary and multisectoral activities and bringing together various programmes. The initiative aims to establish a regional community striving to reconnect people with nature through merging Arts and Sciences and promoting an alternative paradigm of living in harmony with nature! The highly motivating atmosphere among kids during the 2-days event reflected the success of the approach and gave insights on future activities aiming at raising awareness on the value of biodiversity to society and human well-being in the Arab region.
