PAST EVENTS
The multiple events organized in partnership with the ArabMAB network aim to strengthen the biosphere reserves as standalone entity and through the inter-linkages with other Biosphere Reserve within and beyond the boundaries of the Member States. Periodical and occasional events are organized by the UNESCO throughout the year to bring together policy makers, experts, scholars and researchers, and practitioners, local communities and individuals.

Saudi Ministry of Culture provides leadership training course for UNESCO program aimed at increasing specialist cultural heritage expertise in the Kingdom
RIYADH – Under its recently announced ‘Experts Program’, the Saudi Ministry of Culture has provided an intensive leadership training course for “Man and The Biosphere” (MAB), a UNESCO programme. MAB is an intergovernmental scientific program that seeks to enhance the relationship between people and their environments through natural and social sciences.

Saudi Ministry of Culture provides UNESCO leadership course to build capacity in Geological Heritage Conservation and Management
RIYADH – The Saudi Ministry of Culture has provided an intensive course on “Leadership in Geological Heritage Conservation" (LGHC) which falls under The International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme (IGGP); the latest to be delivered under its ‘Experts Program’. A contextualize UNESCO training initiative to UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGp) the LGHC course supports research and capacity development in Geosciences and Earth Sciences in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

New Biosphere Reserve Management Effectiveness Pathways at the service of the ArabMAB network
A sub-regional workshop on the Management Effectiveness Pathways (MEPs) for Biosphere Reserves in the Arab Region, was held from 25th until 27th of July 2022 at Ajloun Nature Reserve in Jordan. The first edition of the workshop organized by the Ecology and Earth Sciences Programme at UNESCO Cairo Office, brought together biosphere managers from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

WildLife Talks 2022 - Building a shared future for all Life
The WildLife Talks 2022 series organized by UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab region, brought together a group on multidisciplinary speakers from the Arab region to present the ecosystems of the Arab region and the threats these ecosystems face in a rapidly changing climate. Knowledge about Restoration initiatives undertaken by individuals or institutions and lessons learned on living in harmony with nature within and beyond the ArabMAB network were shared with large audience joining the talks from around the globe.

Wadi Wurayeh Celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity
Fujairah, United Arab Emirates- Dr. Ali Al Hmoudi - Manager of Wadi Wurayeh Biosphere reserve, outreached to youth communities to raise awareness on UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and their important role in biodiversity conservation and improvement of community livelihood. He also introduced the ArabMAB network and its steering committee and the future plans in the Arab region.

UNESCO Biosphere Reserves discussing ways to catalyze social and economic stewardship for biodiversity conservation
Tunisia - The second sub-regional workshop organized in the context of UNESCO biennium initiative aiming towards ensuring inclusive planning within and beyond UNESCO designated sites in the Arab region, was organised on October 17 and 18, 2018. It was held under the patronage of Dr. Ryad El Moakhar, the Tunisian Minister of Social Affairs and Environment, and in close cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

Merging Arts with Sciences: Kids discovering marine life in Egypt
Alexandria, Egypt -During the Science Festivity 2018 organized by the Bibliotheca of Alexandrina, UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States brought together kids to discover the Marine life in Egypt and Omayed Biosphere Reserve while merging Arts with Science to outreach to society in Alexandria and the surrounding cities and towns.

Paving the way for new UNESCO Designated Sites in Lebanon
In the context of the UNDP-UNESCO inter-agency cooperation under the GEF project entitled 'Sustainable Land Management in the Qaraoun Catchment' (SLMQ), a meeting was held at the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education on 25th of May 2018 in Beirut in Lebanon. The main aims of the meeting were to pave the way for the designation of sites of globally outstanding cultural and ecological value in West Bekaa, Zahle and Rashaya and to identify the support needed for any required assessment for the preparation of the UNESCO applications.
