UNESCO - MAB Biosphere Reserves Directory
A typical ecological niche of the northern and southern ridges of the Tell Atlas Mountains, Chréa holds a water reservoir for the large cities of Algiers, Blida and Médéa. Chréa Natural Park stands on communal lands with the emblematic Atlas cedar forests, holm oak and cork oak, lentisk and maple. The biosphere is a safe haven for the Barbary macaque hiding in Chiffa grotto. The area brings together a mix of people with Arab, Andalusian and Berber origins. The eco-museum offers a space to enjoy the wildlife of Algeria.
